Japan's Nissin Foods(日清食品/닛신식품) recently released a new product called "Korean-style sweet and spicy Yakisoba Pokkunmyeon" which has gained attention from consumers due to its similarities with Korean Samyang(삼양식품)'s polular Buldak Ramen series, specifically the Cream Carbo Buldak Bokkeummyeon. This has sparked discussions online about whether Nissin Foods is copying Samyang's product design and flavour.

The package of Nissin Foods' Yakisoba Pokkunmyeon features a pink design with a cute character in the left corner, and the word "Pokkunmyeon(볶음면)" written in Korean, which is the same word used in the name of Samyang's product. The description of Nissin Foods' product mentions "addictive carbonara sause in a mixture of chicken, gochujang and cheese, " while Samyang's product also features a creamy sauce with a spicy kick.

Despite the similarities, there are some differences between the two products. Nissin Foods' product features wavy noodles, while Samyang's product has straight noodles. Additionally, Nissin Foods' product uses gochujang, a Korean hot pepper paste, while Samyang uses a combination of chilli powder and sauce.

Samyang has trademark rights over the name "Buldak Bokkeummyeon" in Korean and Japanese, but they have stated that it's difficult to take a legal action stance against Nissin Foods since the product name is different. Instead, they plan to focus on marketing activities to highlight the originality of their product.

It's worth noting that despite that similarities, Nissin Foods' Yakisoba Pokkunmyeon has received positive reviews from consumers who enjoy the unique combination of sweet, spicy, and creamy flavours. The product has also gained popularity among those who appreciate the convenience of instant noodles.

The emergence of a new product always provides consumers with more opportunities for choice, which is always beneficial.

Try both noodles and judge for yourself which one suites your taste, however, if you are not accustomed to spicy flavours, it might be beneficial for your mental health to avoid trying either of these two options.
