The former deputy leader of JMS, Jung Jo-eun, and eight accomplices have been indicted on charges of sexual assult and aiding and abetting sexual assault. The Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office's special investigation team (led by Kim Ji-hye) has arrested and charged Jung Jo-eun with attempted rape. A government official, referred to as "A," and four others have been charged with aiding and abetting attempted rape, aiding and abetting sexual assault, and sexual harassment. Additionally, two officials from the external cooperation agency who were involved in destroying evidence have also been indicted.
Jung Jo-eun is accused of giving pajamas to B, a Hong Kong national who was in a state of mind control from March 2018, telling her to "sleep here while protecting the Lord" and helping former JMS leader Jung Myung-seok commit sexual assult. Meanwhile, "A" and five others were accused of brainwashing a victim who reported sexual assault by Jung Myung-seok in September 2021, saying that "it is God's dramatic love." They were also charged with aiding and abetting the crime by waiting nearby or interpreting during the crime.
Two officials from the external cooperation agency were charged with instructing Jung Myung-seok's secretary and others to replace mobile phones that could be evidence of the investigation into sexual assault on the victim from March to mid-April last year (evidence destruction).
According to the prosecution, they have identified JMS insiders who have helped Jung Myung-seok commit sexual violence over a long period of time by using internal religious doctrine, and have seized JMS training centers in Geumsan and confiscated documents and data. They emphasized the seriousness of the crimes committed against the victims and called for severe punishment for those involved. Jung Myung-seok is accused of committing sexual assault or harassment on a Hong Kong female believer 17 times from February 2018 to September 2021, as well as on an Australian national from July to December 2018, in locations such as Jinsan-myeon, Geumsan-gun, and the JMS training centre.
